Rev. & Dr. Patrick V. Suglia
Ethereal Cuddling
What is Ethereal Cuddling?
Cuddle therapy, also known as professional cuddling, is a healing art that began in the early 2000s and is rapidly gaining worldwide popularity. While different cuddle therapy organizations have their own training styles for practitioners, Dr. Suglia offers it under the umbrella of spiritual counseling, incorporating it with the energy healing techniques he is attuned and trained in, which makes it an ethereal experience.

What is involved in a session?
Sessions are held in the quiet, comfortable setting of the Shoemakersville office. After the initial free consultation, you may schedule yourself for as many sessions as you would like, or you could schedule as you go. During the initial consultation, we talk about what your healing goals are and determine your comfort level. Sessions may include conversation or silence as you prefer, the playing of music, or the use of essential oils if you wish. The physical touch that is involved is never sexual in nature. The holding of hands, hugging, cuddling, stroking of arms, back of neck, shoulders, head, and upper back are all permissible according to your comfort level. The accepted cuddling positions are pictured on the client forms linked below. You have your choice of relaxing in a love seat style sofa or on the rug in front of the fireplace with pillows. At the same time physical touch is occurring, you may feel the relaxation or warmth that is often reported when one is receiving energy healing.
The length of the session lasts a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of a full hour. Payment is made at the beginning of each session via PayPal online. Payment can be made after each 20-minute interval if you wish in order to take "breaks" or if you want a session shorter than a full hour. It is important to keep in mind that ethereal cuddling is not meant to be an alternative to any physical or mental health therapies you may be receiving from a professional but does make a beneficial complementary adjunct.
A question that sometimes arises in this office is if kissing is okay since kissing can be a sign of affection among friends and not necessarily something romantic. The short answer is NO. Although, if the client is somebody who Dr. Suglia or his wife or family know personally and are trusting and accepting of it, short pecks are acceptable in the following areas, which are traditionally accepted areas of friendly signs of affection: 1. the pre-auricular area (in front of the ear) pictured here, 2. the forehead, and 3. the top of the head.
For more information, here is the most comprehensive article we've ever found about cuddle therapy and its benefits, which appears in the August 2024 issue of VeryWellMind, a publication of the New York City based digital media company Dotdash Meredith: https://www.verywellmind.com/cuddle-therapy-8671831
What if I feel uncomfortable being touched?

Although the benefits of physical touch is the modus operandi of Ethereal Cuddling the therapist can hold his or her hands over the areas in which the client is uncomfortable being touched, and energy healing becomes the method of operation. Areas in which comfort levels may vary are determined during the initial consultation so that uneasy situations can be avoided.
Can this be done as an online session?
While it may seem counterproductive and to defeat the purpose, the recent Covid pandemic forced many types of practitioners to develop ways to still care for their clients remotely. The same goes for Ethereal Cuddling. Thanks to many types of energy healing being able to be projected and cast from a distance, it is possible to hold sessions via video conferencing programs such as Skype, Zoom, and Google Meeting. This is ideal for when you are not feeling well, have had an unexpected change in plans, or are contacting us from outside the local area and wish to receive this service. The video conferencing system of choice should be determined ahead of time. Payment is handled in the same manner as it is during an in-person session.
